Prayer pt.2

The When of prayer-

The Bible tells us many times when to pray-
Ps.55:17-“all the time”
Matt.5:17-“for our persecutors”
Luke 18:1-“all the time”
1 Thess.5:17-“without ceasing”
James 5:13-“in suffering”

We are told many times to always pray and to pray in our hard times. But there is a distinction between us always talking to God and prayer. Prayer consists of a two way conversation (as I said earlier), so we are not to only talk but also to meditate on the Word of God as well, for that is the way that God talks to us. As is read in Prov. 28:9-“If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.” If we only talk to God and never listen to what He has to say, our prayers our nothing. In Ecc. 5:2 “Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few.” Also in James 1:19 “let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak…” why else did God gives us two ears and one mouth. There always has to be a balance. We are to pray without ceasing (that’s the when of prayer) but also to keep in mind that prayer is a two way conversation.

Prayer pt.1

Prayer
Kaila Anderson

The Why of prayer-
Why should one pray? What is the meaning behind prayer? Is it significant? These are the question we should ask about prayer and the Word of God has the answers.

First of all as Christians we serve a merciful and wrathful God and as humans are sinful and deserve the wrath of God. So we should pray fro His mercy and love. Pray for forgiveness and to be washed clean, so that we may be spared of God’s wrath. Is this not a good reason why we should pray?

Secondly in Rom. 12:9-21 Paul lists how to behave like a Christian and in vs.12 we read “Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer…” As Christians we are called we are to pray continually, it is our duty and a great advantage. You see before Christ came the Israelites couldn’t go to God, they went through the priest. But since Christ died He became our Mediator and so now we can pray straight to God.

But one of the most significant reasons why we should pray is because God has made us, He has redeemed us, so that our fellowship with Him may be restored and prayer is an important part of that relationship. God is our heavenly Father and wishes that we talk to Him as we do our earthly fathers. What would it be like if we never talked to your dads, the man who provides for us? We would seem ungrateful to him, so it is with God and yet God has done what no earthly father can do-He has created us and has sacrificed His son for us even when we were in rebellion to Him, we should daily be thanking Him for that. God speaks to us in and through the Bible, which the Holy Spirit reveals to us. We in turn speak to God about Himself, ourselves and the world around us.

This is a two way conversation and to be highly valued as a reason why we should pray. God is the reason we should pray.

This is a thing dad had us kids do for school.
I answer the why, when, where and how of prayer.

The Excursion

Last weekend Grandpa and Grandma took us older kids (Me, Karissa, Kaleb, David, Destiny, Alex, Collin and Anna) to Union Creek. Where we rented a cabin and spent the night.
It was so cool. We were right next to a trail and the creek so we went on that sat. night and Sun. morning. It was so beautiful, it looked like the redwoods, just there were no redwoods :)

I loved spending time with all my cousins. It was so nice just to be with all the older kids. when are my family's use to get together, I really had know one to hang with so I just sat with the adults. But recently it seems like every one just grew up and we are all the same age. It really is very cool to have friends within your cousins. God has truly blessed me with a wonderful family, a really wonderful family, no family can compare to it, and I really have been seeing that lately.

But now more about the little excursion. Grandma picked me and Karissa up around 9 sat. and we were still very tired from the barn dance the other night. I had to sit in the middle in the back between Kris and Des (which was sooooooo much fun :). We watched the Goldman's play at 11 in Prospect. And t hey had another performance at 4. Afterwards we went to eat at the coolest little restaurant-Beckie's Cafe. It was really good-everyone got chicken fried steak except two people. We then went to the store and bought some snacks for later.
We then explored the trail, crossed a bridge that was "closed" and wished we could swim in the river.

That night we played hide and seek through out the house, and everyone played a nasty trick on me. Here's the story-there was a basement and I was a little scared of it but I knew that someone was going to hide in it and I expected this one person to try to scary. But what I didn't expect was that when I opened the door (here it goes) 7 teens jumping at me and roaring. I screamed (naturally), slammed the door shut and jumped back into the kitchen. Afterwards I was laughing but at first I was pretty scared :)

After we ate up the popcorn and chips, sang some praise songs, and talked it was time to retire and I was ready. But unfortunately sharing a room with Destiny means no sleep. I was with Anna in one bed and Kris and Des in the other. The minute the light was turned off me and Anna were crushed under Karissa and Destiny with full force, and they kept jumping on us, take my pillows and (worst of all) hiding my ipod. It was a lot of fun jumping on top of each other until the clock struck 12, then the spell was broke.

The following day we did some more exploring, eating, talking, singing, and driving.
All in all it was a BLAST!!!!!!!

pics to come :)
